Absenteeism Management

Learners will be provided with an understanding of the relevant laws and best practice processes for assessing and managing different types of absences in the workplace.

This training equips you with the knowledge and best practices to handle various types of employee absences effectively. Through real-world case studies, participants gain practical experience that promotes fairness, accountability, and consistency in managing absenteeism. Ultimately, the course improves workforce productivity, reduces turnover, and helps cultivate a positive work environment, leading to improved employee satisfaction and organisational success.


Designed and delivered by employee relations experts, this program covers:

  • Employee obligations under common law, WHS, and lawful, reasonable directions.
  • Leave entitlements including personal/carerโ€™s leave, compassionate leave, family and domestic violence leave, along with notice and evidence requirements.
  • Employee protections covering adverse action, temporary absences due to illness or injury, and return-to-work/workersโ€™ compensation considerations.
  • Understanding the โ€˜inherent requirementsโ€™ exemption to discrimination and what constitutes a โ€˜reasonable adjustment.โ€™
  • Identifying when an employeeโ€™s absence becomes a pattern or is considered excessive.
  • Strategies for both preventing absenteeism and effectively managing it when prevention isnโ€™t enough.

  • Duration: Full-day (6 hours) or two 3-hour sessions (with at least one week between sessions)
  • Delivery: Face-to-face or online via Teams (or a combination)
  • Engagement: Sessions are capped at 24 attendees to maximise interaction
  • Pricing: $4,900 per workshop or $4,500 for clients with a current MyEMS subscription (Excludes GST, room hire, catering, and reasonable travel/accommodation expenses for sessions outside the Adelaide metropolitan area.)
