Shayne’s main focus lies in assisting clients in the areas of representation/advocacy in various industrial tribunals, negotiation and dispute management. Shayne has a passion and particular strength in assisting high level management in strategic planning for Industrial and Employee Relations. His ability to think outside the square and understand a client’s business ensures he leads his clients seamlessly through what would otherwise be stressful situations.
Shayne is also heavily involved in the development and delivery of our Training Courses. With his passion for upskilling clients whilst also making the courses relevant and engaging for the attendee, Shayne is often in high demand as a trainer for both EMA Consulting and Buzz-ER courses.
Shayne has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and a Masters in Industrial Relations. Prior to starting the company in 1997, Shayne held a senior position at the South Australian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also various senior industrial relations positions within Ansett.
Rod has over 30 years of experience as a senior IR practitioner in providing client-focused, industrial consulting services for clients in all sectors and industries. Clients trust his experience and his focus on delivering best practice outcomes. Rod assists many clients at a senior level in enterprise agreement negotiations, representation defending unfair dismissal claims and disputes, interpretation of awards and agreements, and with contracts of employment.
Rod founded EMA Consulting with Shayne Bakewell in 1997 and prior to this was an IR Advisor at the South Australian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has worked as a senior IR practitioner and advocate for leading Australian corporations. Rod has a Diploma in Business Management (HRM), a Graduate Certificate in IR and is a recipient of the Butterworth Award for IR.

Developing tools to upskill managers and provide confidence in otherwise complex situations, as well as a passion for leader led management are key drivers behind Ashleigh’s commitment to product development.
With the current suite of cloud based products including EMSpro, DLSpro, Buzz IQ, and RESOLVE, Ashleigh believes in building high performance workplaces by enabling managers to lead.
As General Manager, Elaine has responsibility for operations, personnel and financial performance for the business.
Prior to joining EMA Consulting, Elaine previously worked in senior roles for a variety of industries including Professional Services, Construction, International Airlines, and the Resources Sector.
Elaine has a Bachelor of Arts (Accountancy) and is a CPA.
Chris is a Principal Consultant at EMA Consulting, with particular strength in business strategy.
He has extensive industrial relations knowledge, and brings significant experience in operational executive roles, with broad exposure across a range of industries and functions. Chris is also responsible for undertaking specialist reviews of complex matters for all EMA’s clients.
Chris has a significant track record of building collaborative client relationships and leading the negotiation of tenders and contracts. A balanced approach to managing local versus global objectives and a confident public persona.
Ruth is a Principal Consultant based in Melbourne. Ruth’s particular focus is assisting clients with enterprise bargaining, disputes, workplace bullying and advocacy before the Fair Work Commission and other tribunals.
Ruth has over 30 years’ experience in industrial relations, having worked for a number of different Unions in senior advocacy roles for 20 years before working in the private sector and then joining EMA in 2007.

Nick is a Senior Consultant at EMA Consulting, with broad experience in human resource management, more specifically in the areas of Industrial Relations, safety and risk management. Nick has held various HR roles across a diverse range of industry sectors including retail, agriculture and manufacturing. With a focus on training, Nick is able to apply his knowledge and experience in a straightforward manner to provide clients with practical and effective solutions.
Nick has formal qualifications in Human Resource, Business and Safety Management and has recently completed an MBA with AIM Business School.
Ming-Lyn is a Consultant with EMA Consulting and assists clients throughout all areas of industrial relations, including contracts of employment, awards and enterprise agreements, policies and procedures, disciplinary matters, termination and redundancy, and dispute resolution. She has a focus in conducting workplace investigations, and providing advice and representation in unfair dismissal claims.
Having a background in regulatory agencies and community legal services, Ming-Lyn helps clients to achieve solutions for their business with an appreciation for practicality and cost. Ming-Lyn has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide.
Phoebe is a Consultant at EMA Consulting and is involved in a broad range of Industrial Relations matters.
Phoebe assists clients in the areas of contracts of employment, policies and procedures, investigations, and disciplinary issues. Phoebe has a Master of Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Psychological Science from the University of South Australia.
Michael is a Consultant at EMA Consulting, involved in a broad range of industrial matters. He has a particular interest in contracts of employment, investigations, dispute resolution and advocacy.
Michael has a Bachelor of Laws from Adelaide University, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, and is currently studying a Master of Economics through the University of New England. Prior to working at EMA, Michael gained generalist experience working as a legal officer in a large corporation.
Pina’s role involves all areas of administration for EMA including assisting with reception and answering client calls as well as being responsible for the accounts receivable function of the business.
Pina is part of the Buzz-ER help desk team, assisting clients with administration and set-up queries. She also books client training courses, public training courses and assists with webinar registrations and resources.
Lisa’s role involves managing our front of house and all areas of administration for EMA including answering client calls, arranging meetings and travel, as well as being responsible for the accounts payable function of the business.
Lisa also co-ordinates with caterers and other suppliers for our public training days, and assists with training resources and handouts, she also assists with new client registrations, directing TAS calls and any other ad hoc information requested from clients.
Melissa is an Online Systems Consultant with EMA Consulting, and works part-time.
Melissa works within the Buzz-ER product development team, is heavily involved with Association specific and industry specific versions of the products. Her responsibilities are specifically focused around back-end development, testing and continual improvement of the Buzz-ER employment lifecycle products.
